It might have been her last day in the line of duty, but Catherine left the force with lots of valuable information before she hung up her hi-vis vest up for good. With that, his torment of the Cawoods was over for good. Later, while sitting next to her daughter’s grave, Catherine received a text informing her that Tommy had died of his injuries. While she’d be well within her rights to watch him burn, Catherine put out her nemesis using one of her sister’s crochet blankets and Tommy was whisked off to hospital by paramedics. After taking a load of pills, Tommy set himself alight. He poured petrol over himself, meaning Catherine couldn’t tase him and send him back to prison. Tommy knew he wouldn’t survive his injuries, though he stopped Catherine from calling an ambulance. Tommy spent his time trying to convince Catherine that he really did love her daughter and that he was a good person (despite all the murders and rapes and other crimes). Who should be sitting at her kitchen table? A weak, disheveled Tommy Lee Royce, knocking on death’s door thanks to the stab wound he sustained the day before. The final scenes coincided with Catherine’s last day at work and while on shift, she nipped back home. It gave us a beautiful scene in which Catherine finally forgave Clare, realising that Ryan was nothing like his dad. ![]() Upon picking Ryan up from the police station, Ryan asked Catherine to forgive her sister, Clare (Siobhan Finneran), reminding her that she had always been there and had never turned her back on her great-nephew when everyone else did. Police had found indecent images of one of his students, who he had been blackmailing, on his phone. Later we found out that Rob had been charged, but not with Joanna’s murder. Ryan saved the day again, ringing his grandma and getting her out of the house just as Tommy opened the kitchen door.īut what of the other main storyline of series three? Having found multiple unreported injuries and broken bones via Joanna’s post-mortem, the police brought her husband, Rob Hepworth (Mark Stanley), in for questioning. Petrol can in hand and suffering badly from his hillside scrap, Tommy broke in downstairs and slowly made his way into the main house. He ended up at Catherine’s house, where she had fallen asleep in the living room. Having stabbed his would-be killers and stoning the driver in the head (multiple times), Tommy barely escaped with his life. Say what you like about Tommy Lee Royce, but he’s got an instinct for danger and quickly worked out this was all a ruse to bump him off. Finally, Ryan had chosen his team - and it turned out to be the right one.Īs for Tommy, he was rudely awakened by one of Darius Knežević’s (Alex Secareanu) heavies and told he was being moved out of his safehouse, the location of which had been compromised. ![]() Meanwhile, he police wanted to speak to Ryan about his visits to his dad in prison and it didn’t take much time for him to spill on his dad’s whereabouts.
